Love, Terror and Sacrifice

Avantika (Kareena Kapoor), a Psychology professor in New York, decides to make her way back to India to be with her ailing father. She temporarily finds work at the prestigious Delhi University and meets Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan) a substitute teacher at the same University.

Ehsaan may have rubbed her the wrong way trying to steal a cab from under her nose, but his charm is irresistible. Sparks fly and Avantika can’t hold out against it for long. Despite reservations about Ehsaan being a Muslim, her father agrees to bless their wedding. Avantika and Ehsaan are married and leave to start a new life in New York.

As soon as they settle in, Avantika manages to find a job for Ehsaan at a local University. They set out to look for a home for themselves, but Ehsaan doesn’t seem to like any of the houses they see. Finally through an advertisement of an Indian neighbourhood, Avantika manages to find a house Ehsaan actually likes.

Their neighbours are conservative Muslims and their lifestyles are a revelation to Avantika. At dinner, she is taken away from Ehsaan into another quarter where all the women dine separately. They all seem to blindly accept and obey the code of conduct set by Nasreen, who along with her husband Bhaijaan are almost the de facto head of the neighborhood. All of them look up to her. All accept another young woman, Salma. Salma visits Avantika surreptitiously the next day and asks her not to trust anyone. She tells her that her own life is in danger and she needs help. What follows are a series of bizarre events that turn Avantika’s life upside down and drive her into a morass of emotions that spin madly out of control taking her to a point of no return.

Tum Mile

Love rekindles amidst tragedy

On the fateful day in July of 2005 when Mumbai was flooded, two ex lovers met and were reunited by the natural disaster.

There’s an inherent irony in the theme of director Kunal Deshmukh’s film Tum Mile starring Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan as two star-crossed former lovers who meet again after a gap of 6 years.

Time has flown by since the two separated and each has moved on in life. What starts off as a seemingly innocuous encounter on the same flight back to Mumbai ends up as a rollercoaster ride through some of the darkest hours of Mumbai as they see the city get swamped with disaster and loss...and are forced to stick together in this time of crisis.

The story flits into flashbacks and unveils a glorious but crazy past of 2 starkly different people falling in love. The differences between them are exciting at first. Gradually with time, they journey through the emotional pitfalls. There’s constant bickering and irreconcilable differences eventually give way to a final break up. And then we see those very people struggling their way through a stormy night in Mumbai that threatens to take over the city.

As emotions run high, the two learn more about each other on that night possibly than they knew in all those years of being together. Tough situations call on some important revelations and they realize how transient and unpredictable life is and they need to make the most of the time that has been given to them together.

Produced by Mukesh Bhatt, ‘Tum Mile’ has music by Pritam. The film is set to release on November 13.

All The Best

Promise of rib-tickling laughter

Two friends are compelled to swap their spouses to live up a lie for the sake of money.

Gird up your loins for some belly churning laughs from director Rohit Shetty’s comedy film about mistaken identities All The Best.

Veer (Fardeen Khan), a singer by profession, is in greed of extracting extra pocket money from his step-brother Dharam (Sanjay Dutt), a business-honcho from London. In order to make his brother loosen the purse strings, Veer tries to lie about his single status and puts it forth as ‘happily married’ with Vidya (Mugdha Godse), whom he loves.

His friend Prem (Ajay Devgan), a concept car expert, lends a helping hand in this falsely embossed projection.

Prem is happily married to Jhanvi (Bipasha Basu) who takes care of his ancestors’ out-dated ‘Chopra Gymnasium’. Veer and Prem land up in debts as they had opted for a short-cut to earn easy money.

The two get into a bigger soup when Veer's step-brother, Dharam pays a sudden visit to their place. Time does not give a chance and circumstances create such situations that Prem's wife Jhanvi is mistaken for Veer's wife and Veer's girlfriend for Prem's wife.

Soon, Veer and Prem start juggling between prolonging the debt payment to a local don Tobu (Johnny Lever) and pacifying Dharam about the false status. The outcome is a rib-tickling comic situation where Veer and Prem handle the unexpected incoming characters arriving at their place and coping with acquaintances where they boast and cover up with lies.

Say what anyone may but Prem and Veer are two people in desperate need of luck to get out of this quagmire. ‘All The Best’ to them.

The film is produced by Ajay Devgan, directed by Rohit Shetty, and has music by Pritam. It is slated to release on October 16.
